10 years celebrating friendships

This year we celebrate our 10th anniversary. Since our first Camp in 2003 up to the present we have had 4 times more students and every year many former students come back or send their sisters/brothers or friends .

I would like to take the opportunity to greet all parents, former students, present participants and thank you all for your loyalty. We were able to get better and to grow with your help and support. Our close contact with many parents has empowered us with being able to continue on our path.

Of course I want to express my appreciation to our Lenguaventura team which has not changed too much over the years and is today a consolidated group. In actual fact Lenguaventura is our summer family and we completely identify with what we sell. The group leaders' work is the one which I want to mention specially. They are practically 24/7 hours together with the teenagers. They are like brothers/sisters for the teens and help them in every moment needed. They are always in a good mood and enjoy the activities as much as the participants do.

Most of our teachers work during the school year abroad. As they travel they find themselves very often in the same situation as the language student does at the time they have to talk or learn the language of the country of their destination. That is why they perfectly understand the difficulties of their students learning a new language or improve their knowledge. They are also completely aware that the teenagers are on holidays and the teachers prepare their classes with the objective of making classes enjoyable for them while at the same time fulfilling their language aims. The focus is on the oral skills which gives the young people the opportunity to practise in a natural and joyful environment .

I would also like give my thanks and appreciations to the director of the School Residence in Tarifa who has confided in us down through the years. He hands us over his "house". We have noticed over the years how judiciously he has invested in the refurbishment of the installations. Our respect goes also to the cleaning staff the kitchen staff and the night guard who have been sharing the month of July with us for many years.

Last but not least I would also give my thanks to all outdoor companies and to the Kitesurfschool providing us with wonderful activities in which the security of the young people has priority and a special thanks to the transport company with which we have been working since the first day of the Camp and for their patience to cope with our delays on excursions which makes our life much easier to move bigger groups. We consider this people part of the Lenguaventura family.

Finally all of us are on the mission to make our lenguaventureros happy.

Chistes, churros y otras cositas

Hoy tengo ganas de contaros un chiste en español; es un chiste para niños, aunque sabemos que este blog se dirige a adolescentes y adultos amantes de la lengua española. Ahora os preguntaréis por qué cuento algo infantil. Es muy simple: cuando se entiende un chiste en una lengua extranjera, en nuestro caso en español, eso demuestra que los conocimientos que se tienen de la lengua son bastante avanzados. Entonces empezaré con uno que es fácil para que todos lo entendáis. Aquí está:

“Braulio llega feliz de su primer día de cole y le dice a su mamá: “Mamá, Mamá... ¡Aprendí a escribir!” La mamá le dice: “¡Qué bien! ¿Y qué escribiste?” Braulio responde: “¡Cómo voy a saberlo, si todavía no he aprendido a leer!“

No todo el mundo se ríe de los mismos chistes.  El sentido del humor varía según el país. En el cine me doy especialmente cuenta de eso que los “guiris“ tenemos definitivamente otro humor; por ejemplo los españoles se ríen en escenas distintas de las que lo hacemos nosotros. Igual os preguntáis qué es un “guiri“. En argot un “guiri” es un extranjero.

No solamente tenemos otro sentido del humor, sino también otros hábitos a la hora de comer. Por ejemplo en España los churros se comen en el desayuno con chocolate muy espeso. Se remoja el churro en el chocolate. Supongo que aquí surge otra pregunta: ¿Y qué son churros? ¿Y por qué se pone un signo de interrogación o de exclamación delante y al final de una frase? Como ya he empezado a curiosear se me han ocurrido otras cositas. Si en España alguien quiere coger una silla de tu mesa en un restaurante o bar siempre pregunta: “¿Está ocupada?“. Nosotros al contrario preguntamos: “¿Está libre?“

Luego tenemos las horas de comida. España es el único país en Europa que almuerza a las 2 o 3 de la tarde y cena a las 9 o 10 de la tarde/noche. 

Todavía no os he hablado del lenguaje de flirtear. Para el español, todas las chicas extranjeras son rubias sin importar realmente de qué color es su pelo. Echar un piropo a una mujer es algo muy común. Si un hombre saluda a las chicas con “¡Hola guapa!” o “¿Qué tal, corazón mío?”, no hay que asustarse. ¡Se le dice a cualquiera! :))

Con todas estas curiosidades se puede encontrar un alumno de lengua española en España. Convivir en un campamento puede ayudar a resolver muchas dudas de las que he descrito arriba y no forzosamente en el aula, sino durante las salidas con los profesores o los monitores. Se  somete automática y constantemente a una inmersión en la lengua y siempre hay alguien nativo a quien el alumno puede consultar.

Además, como los participantes vienen de todos los rincones del mundo se aprende también mucho sobre otras culturas y sus curiosidades. En realidad todas las actividades se convierten en una lección, no solamente en cuanto a una lengua, sino en cuanto a ampliar el horizonte vital. Un campamento lleva entre otras cosas la ventaja que el aprendizaje no está únicamente ligado al aprendizaje en el aula. 

Ahora es el momento de decidir la elección del campamento de este verano 2013 a vuestro gusto. Estamos convencidos de que con vuestra singularidad y personalidad únicas aportaréis mucho a Lenguaventura.
